Background  Recent animal and human studies have suggested that the therapeutic benefit of methotrexate in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis may be substantially reduced in patients who are concomitantly consuming caffeine. Here, we aimed to investigate the effect of caffeine consumption on the methotrexate dosing requirements in patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.
Systemic methotrexate for the treatment of psoriasis

NOVELTIES IN DERMATOLOGY Methotrexate : New Therapeutic Approaches
Although the first study on the efficacy of methotrexate in the treatment of psoriasis was reported in 1958, scientific evidence for this indication has been scant until quite recently. We now haveExpand

A Preliminary Study on the Effect of Caffeine Consumption on the Evolution of Sarcoidosis
TLDR
It is found that the consumption of caffeine failed to modify the evolution of the disease, and this was not hindered either by smoking or drug therapy. Expand

TLDR
This article reviews several of the researched natural approaches to psoriasis treatment, while addressing its underlying cause. Expand
Coffee consumption, metabolic syndrome and clinical severity of psoriasis: good or bad stuff?
TLDR
A negative association between coffee intake, MetS prevalence and clinical severity of psoriasis is reported. Expand
Coffee and autoimmunity: More than a mere hot beverage!
TLDR
It is found that coffee consumption seems to increase the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), and coffee consumption may exert a protective role against multiple sclerosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, and ulcerative colitis. Expand
Psoriasis: A comprehensive review
TLDR
There are various treatment regimens available for psoriasis such as topical agents, phototherapy, systemic agents, and homeopathic approach which can help to control the symptoms. Expand

Reversal of the antiinflammatory effects of methotrexate by the nonselective adenosine receptor antagonists theophylline and caffeine: evidence that the antiinflammatory effects of methotrexate are mediated via multiple adenosine receptors in rat adjuvant arthritis.
TLDR
There is strong evidence that adenosine mediates the antiinflammatory effects of MTX in this model of RA, and the findings suggest that abstinence from caffeine, a ubiquitous food additive and medication, may enhance the therapeutic effects ofMTX in RA. Expand

Clinicians who have become familiar with the concepts presented should be better equipped to prescribe the drug in a more effective and rational manner and emerging insights into the role of naturally occurring genetic variations in cellular pathways of MTX metabolism hold promise for predicting both efficacy and toxicity of the drug. Effect of chemotherapy combined with caffeine for osteosarcoma
TLDR
Nine patients with osteosarcoma treated by chemotherapy combined with caffeine and surgery showed complete histological response to preoperative chemotherapy consisting of three intraarterial infusions of cisplatin and caffeine without/with doxorubicin and two systemic high-dose methotrexate combined with vincristine. Induction of cytogenetic damage in human lymphocytes in vitro and of antineoplastic effects in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells in vivo treated by methotrexate, hyperthermia and/or caffeine.
TLDR
It is suggested that the above triple combination (methotrexate plus caffeine plus hyperthermia) could achieve increased effectiveness of methotrexate, better therapy results, and could be successfully applied in the treatment of various types of cancer. Expand
Caffeine effects on the chromosomal aberrations induced in vivo by sarcolysine and methotrexate.
TLDR
Both in the sarcolysine- and methotrexate- treated tumors, the induced chromosome lesions were enhanced by caffeine administration, but this effect was very obvious in the met Hotrexate experiments and rather weak in the Sarcolysines treatments (see table). Expand
Enhancement of methotrexate-induced growth inhibition, cell killing and DNA lesions in cultured L5178Y cells by the reduction of DNA repair efficiency.
TLDR
The results suggest that even short MTX treatment can cause DNA lesions which are normally, at least partially, repaired, by the reduction of DNA repair efficiency with CAF, which finds its reflection in the enhancement of MTX cytotoxicity. Expand
