BACKGROUND Patients with small or dysmorphic ventricles requiring ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) insertion for hydrocephalus can be challenging. The 'freehand' technique does not always provide for accurate catheter insertion, particularly in patients with slit ventricles, complex hydrocephalus or displaced ventricles.
