We present a theoretical study of CS line profiles in archetypal hot cores. We provide estimates of line fluxes from the CS(1-0) to the CS(15-14) transitions and present the temporal variation of these fluxes. We find that (1) the CS(1-0) transition is a better tracer of the Envelope of the hot core whereas the higher-J CS lines trace the ultracompact core (UCC); (2) the peak temperature of the CS transitions is a good indicator of the temperature inside the hot core; (3) in the Envelope, the… Expand

Dense gas in the Galactic central molecular zone is warm and heated by turbulence
Context. The Galactic center is the closest region where we can study star formation under extreme physical conditions like those in high-redshift galaxies. Aims. We measure the temperature of theExpand
Herschel observations of the Sagittarius B2 cores: Hydrides, warm CO, and cold dust
Context. Sagittarius B2 is one of the most massive and luminous star-forming regions in the Galaxy and shows a very rich chemistry and physical conditions similar to those in much more distantExpand
Mapping CS in Starburst Galaxies: Disentangling and Characterising Dense Gas
Aims. We observe the dense gas tracer CS in two nearby starburst galaxies to determine how the conditions of the dense gas varies across the circumnuclear regions in starburst galaxies. Methods.Expand
The molecular gas properties in external galaxies
Abstract We present a summary of the physical and chemical properties we have obtained for the molecular gas found in galaxies, an essential triggering ingredient to any star formation (SF) process.Expand
Deperturbation of the rotational spectrum of the d3Δ–a3П (7, 1) band of CS radical
Abstract The spectra of d 3 Δ– a 3 П (7, 1) band of CS radical were measured by optical heterodyne–concentration modulation spectroscopy in the region from 11 640 to 12 230 cm −1 . In total, weExpand
Timescales for Low-Mass Star Formation in Extragalactic Environments: Implications for the Stellar Initial Mass Function
We investigate the physical and chemical conditions necessary for low-mass star formation in extragalactic environments by calculating various characteristic timescales associated with star formationExpand
Potential energy surface and rovibrational energy levels of the H2-CS van der Waals complex.
TLDR
The present work provides the first theoretical predictions of the rovibrational energy levels of the weakly bound complex CS-H(2), and could be used to assign future experimental spectra and to check the accuracy of the potential energy surface. Expand

Models of molecular clouds. I. Multitransition study of CS.
The dense cloud cores of M17, S140, and NGC 2024 have been mapped in four rotational transitions (J = 2-1, J = 3-2, J = 5-4, J = 6-5) of the CS molecule. These observations were made with threeExpand
Observations of interstellar carbon monosulfide: evidence for turbulent cores in giant molecular clouds
We have observed lines of CS(J=1..-->..0) and CS(J=2..-->..1) with nearly equal beam sizes and high velocity resolution in 32 molecular sources including a variety of source types. We find that, withExpand
The Physical and Chemical Structure of Hot Molecular Cores
We have made self-consistent models of the density and temperature profiles of the gas and dust surrounding embedded luminous objects using a detailed radiative transfer model together withExpand
The Properties of Massive, Dense Clumps: Mapping Surveys of HCN and CS
We have mapped over 50 massive, dense clumps with four dense gas tracers: HCN J = 1-0 and 3-2; and CS J = 2-1 and 7-6 transitions. Spectral lines of optically thin H13CN 3-2 and C34S 5-4 were alsoExpand
Molecular line profiles as diagnostics of protostellar collapse: modelling the ‘blue asymmetry’ in inside-out infall
The evolution of star-forming core analogues undergoing inside-out collapse is studied with a multipoint chemodynamical model which self-consistently computes the abundance distribution of chemicalExpand
On the Heating Source of the Orion KL Hot Core
We present images of the J = 10-9 rotational lines of HC3N in the vibrationally excited levels 1v7, 1v6, and 1v5 of the hot core (HC) in Orion KL. The images show that the spatial distribution andExpand
Models for Dense Molecular Cloud Cores
We present a detailed theoretical model for the thermal balance, chemistry, and radiative transfer within quiescent dense molecular cloud cores that contain a central protostar. In the interior ofExpand
Modelling line profiles in infalling cores
Results are presented from a model of molecular line formation in collapsing star-forming cores. The study includes, for the first time, a self-consistent chemical and dynamical model which is thenExpand
TRACING HIGH-DENSITY GAS IN M82 AND NGC 4038
We present the first detection of CS in the Antennae galaxies toward the NGC 4038 nucleus, as well as the first detections of two high-J (5-4 and 7-6) CS lines in the center of M82. The CS(7-6) lineExpand
EXTRAGALACTIC CS SURVEY
