The large-scale structure of the universe is a complex web of clusters, filaments, and voids. Its properties are informed by galaxy redshift surveys and measurements of peculiar velocities. Wiener filter reconstructions recover three-dimensional velocity and total density fields. The richness of the elements of our neighborhood is revealed with sophisticated visualization tools. A key component of this paper is an accompanying movie which can be viewed and downloaded at http://vimeo.com…

Cosmography and Data Visualization

TLDR
Advances in the field of extragalactic cosmography obtained using the SDvision visualization software in the context of the Cosmicflows Project are reported.

The Cosmic V-Web

The network of filaments with embedded clusters surrounding voids, which has been seen in maps derived from redshift surveys and reproduced in simulations, has been referred to as the cosmic web. A

The phase-space structure of nearby dark matter as constrained by the SDSS

Previous studies using numerical simulations have demonstrated that the shape of the cosmic web can be described by studying the Lagrangian displacement field. We extend these analyses, showing that

Global structure of the local universe according to 2MRS survey

We report the results of a statistical analysis of the space distribution of galaxies of the 2MRS catalog, which contains redshifts of 43533 galaxies of the 2MASS all-sky IR survey. Because of the

Unified description of galactic dynamics and the cosmological constant

We explore the phenomenology of a two-fluid cosmological model, where the field equations of general relativity are sourced by baryonic and cold dark matter. We find that the model allows for a

Tracing the cosmic web

The cosmic web is one of the most striking features of the distribution of galaxies and dark matter on the largest scales in the Universe. It is composed of dense regions packed full of galaxies,

The Line-of-Sight Analysis of Spatial Distribution of Galaxies in the COSMOS2015 Catalogue

New observations of high-redshift objects are crucial for the improvement of the standard ΛCDM cosmological model and our understanding of the Universe. One of the main directions of modern

Motions of Galaxies in the Bootes Strip

We examine the structure and kinematics of the diffuse filament of galaxies lying between the Local Void and the Virgo cluster. For this we use a sample of 361 galaxies with radial velocities VLG

The Cosmic Large-Scale Structure in X-rays (CLASSIX) Cluster Survey

Previous studies of the galaxy and galaxy cluster distribution in the local Universe found indications for a large extension of the Local Supercluster up to a radius of 190 h70−1 Mpc. We are using

Cosmicflows-3: Cosmography of the Local Void

Cosmicflows-3 distances and inferred peculiar velocities of galaxies have permitted the reconstruction of the structure of overdensities and underdensities within the volume extending to 0.05c. This

IRAS galaxies versus potent mass: Density fields, biasing and omega

A comparison of the galaxy density field extracted from a complete redshift survey of IRAS galaxies brighter than 1.936 Jy with the mass-density field reconstructed by the POTENT procedure from the

The Universe behind the Milky Way

Summary. Due to the foreground extinction of the Milky Way, galaxies appear increasingly fainter the closer they lie to the Galactic Equator, creating a “zone of avoidance” of about 25% in the

Wiener Reconstruction of Large-Scale Structure from Peculiar Velocities

We present an alternative, Bayesian method for large-scale reconstruction from observed peculiar velocities. The method stresses a rigorous treatment of the random errors, and it allows extrapolation

Reconstructing cosmological initial conditions from galaxy peculiar velocities – II. The effect of observational errors

The Reverse Zeldovich Approximation (RZA) is a reconstruction method which allows to estimate the cosmic displacement field from galaxy peculiar velocity data and to constrain initial conditions for

Action Principle Solutions for Galaxy Motions within 3000 Kilometers per Second

The numerical action variational principle is used to find fully nonlinear solutions for the orbits of the mass tracers given their present redshifts and angular positions and the cosmological

A nearby massive galaxy cluster behind the Milky Way

THE recession velocities of relatively nearby galaxies show systematic deviations from a uniform expansion field. These deviations indicate the presence of the 'Great Attractor'—a large concentration

THE 2MASS REDSHIFT SURVEY—DESCRIPTION AND DATA RELEASE

We present the results of the 2MASS Redshift Survey (2MRS), a ten-year project to map the full three-dimensional distribution of galaxies in the nearby universe. The Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS)

COSMIC FLOW FROM TWO MICRON ALL-SKY REDSHIFT SURVEY: THE ORIGIN OF COSMIC MICROWAVE BACKGROUND DIPOLE AND IMPLICATIONS FOR ΛCDM COSMOLOGY

We generate the peculiar velocity field for the Two Micron All-Sky Redshift Survey (2MRS) catalog using an orbit-reconstruction algorithm. The reconstructed velocities of individual objects in 2MRS

Our Peculiar Motion Away from the Local Void

The peculiar velocity of the Local Group of galaxies manifested in the cosmic microwave background dipole is found to decompose into three dominant components. The three components are clearly

Structures in the Great Attractor region

To further our understanding of the Great Attractor (GA), we have undertaken a redshift survey using the 2dF on the AAT. Clusters and filaments in the GA region were targeted with 25 separate
