The growth of lymphoid cells is regulated by a delicate balance between molecules controlling cell survival and cell death. Although some studies examined telomerase activity and Bcl-2, Mcl1 and p53 gene expression in non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL), side-by-side analysis of these genes in different types of NHL is still missing. Therefore, blood specimens representing 60 cases of different NHL types were obtained from the Hematology Clinic, Coltea Hospital. Total RNA was isolated and reverse…

Expression of Apoptosis Related and Proliferative Proteins in Malignant Lympho-Proliferative Disorders

An immunohistochemical analysis of patterns of apoptotic and cell proliferative related protein expression in different histological grades and immune phenotypes of malignant lymphomas and other lymphoproliferative disorders indicated the important role of Bcl-2 and Bax in biological behavior of lymphomas.

Telomerase activity in relation to pro- and anti-apoptotic protein expression in high grade non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.

Observation that high hTERT mRNA expression may be related to shorter survival should prompt further investigation of the clinical significance of TA and its components in HG-NHL.

Protein Expression of bax, bcl-2, and p53 in Patients with Non-Hodgkin's Gastric Lymphoma: Prognostic Significance

expression of bax is a significant prognostic factor in patients with gastric lymphoma; its prognostic value increases significantly when studied in bcl-2-negative patients; but expression of bAX failed to be an independent prognostic factors.

POSITIVE CORRELATION BETWEEN APOPTOTIC AND PROLIFERATIVE INDICES IN GASTROINTESTINAL LYMPHOMAS OF MUCOSA‐ASSOCIATED LYMPHOID TISSUE (MALT)

To understand the role of deregulation of apoptosis in the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal MALT lymphoma, apoptosis has been quantitatively studied in paraffin sections from 40 cases (19 low grade,

[The expression and clinical significance of proliferative antigen Ki-67 and apoptosis-antagonizing antigen Bcl-2 in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma].

The level of Ki-67 and Bcl-2 expression was closely related with the grade of malignant and the prognosis of NHL and they were a pair of useful markers for understanding the generation and prog outlook of NHL.

Apoptosis-Regulating Proteins and Prognosis in Diffuse Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas

It was shown that p53 expression was an independent immunohistochemical parameter related to a poor prognosis in patients with diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Correlations between apoptotic and proliferative indices in malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.

It is suggested that high AIs and lack of BCL-2 expression may be adverse prognostic factors, independent of histological grade, in malignant non-Hodgkin's lymphomas.

High-Grade Malignant Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphomas Differ from Low-Grade Lymphomasin the Extent of Apoptosis andTheir Expression of bcl-2, mcl-1,bax and p53

The results suggest that apoptosis-affecting genes bcl-2, bax, mcl-1 and p53 all take part in the regulation of apoptosis in malignant non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas and contribute to a different level of apoptotic cells between high- and low-grade non- Hodgkins lymphomas.

Downregulation of telomerase reverse transcriptase mRNA expression by wild type p53 in human tumor cells

It is demonstrated that p53 is also a powerful inhibitor of human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), a key component for telomersase, and wt p53-triggered inhibition of hTERT/telomerase expression may reflect yet another mechanism of p 53-mediated tumor suppression.

Telomerase activity in B‐cell non‐Hodgkin lymphoma

The relation between telomerase and proliferation suggested by in vitro studies has not been adequately tested in B‐NHLs in vivo, and information is necessary to understand the relation between proliferation and telomersase and to predict the efficacy of antitelomerase drugs currently in development.

Telomerase and cancer.

Recent advances in the field including the use of telomerase in cancer diagnostics and an overview of anti-telomerase cancer therapeutic approaches are covered.
