Phosphine (PH3) was tentatively identified a few years ago in the carbon star envelopes IRC +10216 and CRL 2688 from observations of an emission line at 266.9 GHz attributable to the J = 1-0 rotational transition. We report the detection of the J = 2-1 rotational transition of PH3 in IRC +10216 using the HIFI instrument on board Herschel, which definitively confirms the identification of PH3. Radiative transfer calculations indicate that infrared pumping in excited vibrational states plays an… Expand

Carbon Chemistry in IRC+10216: Infrared Detection of Diacetylene.
We present the detection of C4H2 for first time in the envelope of the C-rich AGB star IRC+10216 based on high spectral resolution mid-IR observations carried out with the Texas Echelon-cross-EchelleExpand
THE PECULIAR DISTRIBUTION OF CH3CN IN IRC +10216 SEEN BY ALMA.
TLDR
Analysis of observations of the J = 14 - 13 rotational transition of CH3CN in IRC +10216 indicates that methyl cyanide is not formed neither in the stellar photosphere nor far in the outer envelope, but at radial distances as short as 1-2″, reaching a maximum abundance of ~ 0.02 molecules cm-3 from the star. New molecules in IRC +10216: confirmation of C5S and tentative identification of MgCCH, NCCP, and SiH3CN
The carbon-star envelope IRC +10216 harbors a rich variety of molecules, with more than 80 detected to date. During the course of a λ 3m m survey of IRC+10216 carried out with the IRAM 30-m telescopeExpand
Detection of infrared fluorescence of carbon dioxide in R Leonis with SOFIA/EXES.
TLDR
The detection of hot CO2 in the O-rich AGB star R Leo is reported on based on high spectral resolution observations carried out with the Echelon-cross-Echelle Spectrograph mounted on the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). Expand
Origin of the PN molecule in star-forming regions: the enlarged sample
Phosphorus nitride (PN) is the P-bearing species with the highest number of detections in star-forming regions. Multiline studies of the molecule have shown that the excitation temperature of PN isExpand
Computational Study of the Hydrogenation Sequence of the Phosphorous Atom on Interstellar Dust Grains
The detection of phosphorous-bearing molecules in interstellar environments constitutes a fundamental task for understanding the formation of prebiotic molecules, but it is also a challenge. In coldExpand
An Infrared Spectroscopic Study Toward the Formation of Alkylphosphonic Acids and Their Precursors in Extraterrestrial Environments.
TLDR
The first study and results on the possible synthesis of alkylphosphonic acids produced from phosphine-mixed ices under interstellar conditions are presented, suggesting that this class of molecules can be formed in interstellar ices. Expand
The first steps of Interstellar Phosphorus Chemistry
Phosphorus-bearing species are an essential key to form life on Earth, however they have barely been detected in the interstellar medium. Since only PN and PO have been identified so far towardsExpand
On the origin of phosphorus nitride in star-forming regions
We present multi-transition observations of PN towards a sample of nine massive dense cores in different evolutionary stages. Using transitions with different excitation conditions, we have found forExpand
Synthesis of the hitherto elusive formylphosphine (HCOPH2) in the interstellar medium - a molecule with an exotic phosphorus peptide bond.
TLDR
It is suggested that formylphosphine (HCOPH2) should be detectable in the interstellar medium eventually providing a missing link between phosphorus-bearing complex organic molecules detected in the Interstellar medium and on comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Expand
