Natural scrapie, new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and murine experimental transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) are fatal neurodegenerative disorders. The agent responsible for these diseases is closely related to PrPsc, an abnormal isoform of the cellular prion protein.
