The Alternative Motor Fuels Act (AM8A) of 1988 requires the Department of Energy (DOE) to purchase alternative fuel motor vehicles for use in government fleets, and further requires DOE to cooperate with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to evaluate potential safety, fuel economy, and emissions implications of these alternative technologies.
