Objective: The present study was carried out to isolate and identify L. acidophilus and to compare the effect of inoculation methods and cultivation conditions on the yield of the bacteria. [...] Key Method Results: The isolated strain was Gram positive cocco-bacilli, nonmotile and catalase negative. It ferment maltose, lactose, sucrose, and glucose, but unable to ferment arabinose and sorbitol. The SEM examination displayed the ranging of the cells varied from 2.02 - 5.49 × 0.50 - 0.59 µm. From all the results…Expand

ISOLATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND DECARBOXYLASE ACTIVITYOF LACTIC ACID BACTERIA ISOLATED FROM DAIRY PRODUCTS
TLDR
Isolated LAB strains were tested for different amino acid decarboxylase activities and no bubble was observed indicating that the isolated bacterium is catalase negative and could not mediate the decomposition of H2O2 to produce O2. Expand
Probiotic characterization of lactic acid bacteria isolated from swine intestine
TLDR
Probiotic microorganisms L. plantarum and L. acidophilus were isolated from swine intestine and were found to have good probiotic properties. Expand
Molecular Identification of Lactobacillus acidophilus as a probiotic potential from traditional doogh samples and evaluation of their antimicrobial activity against some pathogenic bacteria
TLDR
The results of this study suggest that the isolates isolated from traditional doogh that inhibit the growth of Gram-positive and Gram-negative can be used as new industrial starters. Expand
Molecular Identification of Lactic Acid Bacteria as a predominant probiotic microorganism found in indigenous fermented pig fat of Assam, India
TLDR
The experimental results indicated the absence of any other spoilage bacteria in the food sample which predominated only Lactobacillus and Bacillus species, which strongly supports the food product as a potential probiotic. Expand
CONVENTIONAL AND MOLECULAR CHARACTERIZATION OF SELECTED LACTIC ACID BACTERIA FROM FERMENTED CORN GRUEL (OGI) AND FERMENTED MILK (NONO)
Fermented foods have served as important vehicle for microbial flora that have overtime formed a niche as part of the human diet. One of such is the Lactic acid bacteria which are nonpathogenic,Expand
ISOLATION, IDENTIFICATION AND CHARACTERISATION OF A NOVEL PROBIOTIC STRAIN (LACTOBACILLUS PARACASEI KUMBB005) FROM COW MILK SAMPLES AND ITS ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY
TLDR
Lactobacillus paracasei KUMBB005 obtained from milk sample were more effective than other isolates and could be assigned as potential strain for further research work towards its probiotic application. Expand
Characterization of Lactobacilli Isolated From Four Different Sources
Lactobacilli, the Gram positive, non spore forming, catalase negative rod shaped lactic acid bacteria are used widely as starter cultures for food fermentations and also as probiotic cultures due toExpand
The biodiversity of Lactobacillus spp. from Iranian raw milk Motal cheese and antibacterial evaluation based on bacteriocin-encoding genes
TLDR
Bacteriocinogenic isolates could be recommended as suitable candidates to be used as starter, adjunct-starter or antimicrobial agents for production of fermented and non-fermented products. Expand
Isolation and selection of technologically important lactic acid bacteria and yeast from fermented potato
This study focused on the isolation, identification and selection of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts with important technological properties from fermented potato. A total of three LAB and twoExpand
Plasmid-Mediated Antibiotic-Resistant Pattern of Lactobacillus spp. Isolated From Dairy Products
Background: Microorganisms have potent activity for transferring antibiotic-resistant genes with either chromosomallyor plasmid-mediated characteristics. The purpose of this study was to isolateExpand

Identification of phytopathogenic coryneform bacteria using the biolog automated microbial identification system
TLDR
A carbon utilization microplate assay system developed by Biolog, Inc., has the potential to simplify the identification scheme of phytopathogenic bacteria and, after supplementing the Biolog database with newly derived data, identification of certain species improved. Expand
Isolation and identification of lactobacilli from novel-type probiotic and mild yoghurts and their stability during refrigerated storage.
  • U. Schillinger
  • Biology, Medicine
  • International journal of food microbiology
  • 1999
TLDR
A total of 26 Lactobacillus strains were isolated from various mild yoghurts and novel-type probiotic dairy products and from a starter culture preparation and were identified by using DNA-DNA hybridization technique, revealing some strains had been misclassified by their investigators. Expand
Molecular Discrimination of Lactobacilli Used as Starter and Probiotic Cultures by Amplified Ribosomal DNA Restriction Analysis
TLDR
Strips ATCC 393 and ATCC 15820 exhibited unique ARDRA patterns with CfoI and Tru9I restriction enzymes as compared with the other strains of L. casei, L. bulgaricus and L. rhamnosus. Expand
Lactic acid bacteria: classification and physiology.
TLDR
The present taxonomy relies partly on true phylogenetic relationships, largely based on morphology, mode of glucose fermentation, growth at different temperatures, configuration of the lactic acid produced, ability to grow at high salt concentrations, and acid or alkaline tolerance. Expand
Identification and classification of Lactobacillus acidophilus, L. gasseri and L. johnsonii strains by SDS-PAGE and rRNA-targeted oligonucleotide probe hybridization.
TLDR
The phylogenetic relationship of a representative of L. johnsonii was determined by comparative sequence analysis of the 16S rRNA genes, which indicated that it is very closely related to L. gasseri. Expand
Enumeration of Lactobacillus casei in the presence of L. acidophilus, bifidobacteria and lactic starter bacteria in fermented dairy products
TLDR
The three probiotic bacteria could be simultaneously enumerated from dairy products that contain them along with starter bacteria using media developed in this work. Expand
Taxonomic characterization of Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus isolates from a Cameroonian zebu's fermented raw milk
TLDR
The isolates from Pindidam were well adapted to their specific environmental conditions and demonstrated both high growth rates and ability to support elevated acidic levels in fermented milk. Expand
Importance of bile tolerance of Lactobacillus acidophilus used as a dietary adjunct.
TLDR
In a feeding trial involving newborn dairy calves supplementation of the diet with the more bile resistant strain of Lactobacillus acidophilus caused greater increases of numbers of facultative lactobabilli in the upper small intestines than did the strain exhibiting lower resistance to bile. Expand
Differentiation of dextran-producing Leuconostoc strains from fermented rice cake (puto) using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis.
TLDR
Several strains of lactic acid bacteria isolated from puto, a fermented rice cake consumed as a breakfast and snack food in the Philippines, showed an unusual clumping phenotype, and two of these were capable of inhibiting other strains. Expand
