We have examined the role of the protein CD151 in cell motility, invasion and metastasis of cancer cells by using CD151‐overexpressing cells prepared by transfection of CD151 cDNA into three cancer cell lines established from different origins; a human colon cancer RPMI4788, a human glioblastoma A172 and a human fibrosarcoma HT1080. Invasion into Matrigel and cell motility of all 3 CD151‐overexpressing cancer cells were enhanced significantly when compared to control parental cells. Pulmonary…
The migration and invasion of human prostate cancer cell lines involves CD151 expression.
TLDR
The data show that CD151 does not change the proliferative properties of prostate cancer cells, but does promote migration and invasion, and suggest that CD 151 plays a specific role in promoting prostate cancer cell motility.
The migration and invasion of human prostate cancer involves 151 expression
TLDR
The data show that CD151 does not change the proliferative properties of prostate cancer cells, but does promote migration and invasion, and suggest that CD 151 plays a specific role in promoting prostate cancer cell motility.
CD151-mediated adhesion is crucial to osteosarcoma pulmonary metastasis
TLDR
CD151 induced osteosarcoma metastasis likely by regulating cell function through adhesion signaling through suppression of CD151 expression, and CD151 knockdown significantly reduced Akt, p38, and p65 phosphorylation as well as focal adhesion kinase, integrin β1, p70s6, andp-mTOR levels.
Regulation of CD151 by Hypoxia Controls Cell Adhesion and Metastasis in Colorectal Cancer
TLDR
Investigation of the underlying mechanism that controls the early event of metastasis in colon cancer found Regulation of CD151 by oxygen tension may play an important role in cancer metastasis by regulating the detachment from the primary site and homing in the secondary site.
CD151 promotes cell metastasis via activating TGF-β1/Smad signaling in renal cell carcinoma
TLDR
Conclusively, CD151 might exhibit a prominent role in migration and invasion of RCC cells via activating TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway and upregulating the protein level of transforming growth factor- β1 in cells with silencing of CD151 could rescue the malignant behaviors inhibited.
CD151 promotes proliferation and migration of PC3 cells via the formation of CD151-integrin α3/α6 complex
TLDR
It is concluded that CD151 promotes the proliferation and migration of PC3 cells through the formation of CD151-integrin complex and the activation of phosphorylated ERK.

TLDR
It was concluded that CD151 promotes the proliferation and migration of PC3 cells through the formation of CD151-integrin complex and the activation of phosphorylated ERK.
CD151 confers metastatic potential to clear cell sarcoma of the soft tissue in animal model
TLDR
The present results suggest that CD151 may contribute to invasion and metastasis of clear cell sarcoma of soft tissue, and may serve as a potent target to regulate metastasisof clear cell Sarcoma.
Tetraspanin CD151 mediates communication between PC3 prostate cancer cells and osteoblasts.
TLDR
Data revealed that knockdown of CD151 abolished activation of pro-migratory/pro-survival kinases triggered by osteoblasts, along with expression of matrix metalloproteinase-13, which suggests that CD151 participates in communication between PC3 cells and bone microenvironment and the process can be considered as a significant step of PCa progression and metastasis.
Genetic Ablation of the Tetraspanin CD151 Reduces Spontaneous Metastatic Spread of Prostate Cancer in the TRAMP Model
TLDR
It is shown for the first time that genetic ablation of CD151 inhibits spontaneous metastasis in a transgenic mouse model of de novo tumorigenesis and may prove to be a valuable prognostic marker for treatment stratification and is a possible antimetastatic target.

Suppression of human melanoma cell growth and metastasis by the melanoma‐associated antigen CD63 (ME491)
TLDR
The results confirm previous studies using H‐ros‐transformed NIH3T3 fibroblasts and suggest that CD63 may have a role as a tumor suppressor gene in human melanoma that acts to limit invasion and progression of melanoma.
Frequent downregulation of the KAI1(CD82) metastasis suppressor protein in human cancer cell lines
TLDR
It is found that KAI1 protein was downregulated in 31/42 of the cancer cell lines analysed, and may be an indicator of metastatic potential in cancers of urogenital, gynecological, and pulmonary origin and in melanomas.
SFA-1/PETA-3 (CD151), a member of the transmembrane 4 superfamily, associates preferentially with alpha 5 beta 1 integrin and regulates adhesion of human T cell leukemia virus type 1-infected T cells to fibronectin.
TLDR
Analysis of the adhesion molecules associated with and the biologic function of SFA-1/PETA-3 in human T cell leukemia virus type 1 (HTLV-1)-infected T cells and in freshly isolated adult T cellukemia (ATL) cells using an anti-CD151 mAb showed that the CD151 molecule was associated with the alpha 5 beta 1 integrin molecule and that it enhanced alpha 5 Beta 1Integrin-mediated adhesion to fibronectin.
Eukaryotic expression cloning with an antimetastatic monoclonal antibody identifies a tetraspanin (PETA-3/CD151) as an effector of human tumor cell migration and metastasis.
TLDR
The ability of PETA-3 to mediate cell migration suggests a mechanism by which this protein may influence metastasis, and is identified as the first member of the tetraspanin family to be linked as a positive effector of metastasis.
Identification of p130Cas as a Mediator of Focal Adhesion Kinase–promoted Cell Migration
TLDR
P130Cas, but not Grb2, is a mediator of FAK-promoted cell migration and it is suggested that FAK/ p130Cas complex targets downstream pathways other than Erks in mediatingFAK- Promoted Cell migration.
Stimulation of cell migration by overexpression of focal adhesion kinase and its association with Src and Fyn.
TLDR
It is reported here that overexpression of FAK in CHO cells increased their migration on fibronectin, and a mutation of the major autophosphorylation site Y397 in FAK abolished its ability to stimulate cell migration, while phosphorylation in a kinase-defective FAK by endogenous FAK led to increased migration.
A specific cell surface glycoconjugate controlling cell motility: evidence by functional monoclonal antibodies that inhibit cell motility and tumor cell metastasis.
TLDR
Two functional monoclonal antibodies, derived from two independent processes of immunization and selection, were found to directed to a common specific carbohydrate structure, Fuc alpha 1----2Gal beta 1----R, regardless of the identity of the R group.

TLDR
A retrospective study on the expression of the recently identified KAI1 gene by tumors of the lung suggests that assessment of the expression status of KAII/CD82 and MRP-1/CD9 by tumors may provide prognostic information on the clinical behavior of lung cancer.
Tetraspanins are localized at motility-related structures and involved in normal human keratinocyte wound healing migration.
