High plasma C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels and arterial stiffness are risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation index (AIx) have been found to be elevated in patients with vascular inflammation, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and in smokers.
