We construct heterotic vacua based on six-dimensional nearly-Kahler homogeneous manifolds and non-trivial vector bundles thereon. Our examples are based on three specific group coset spaces. It is shown how to construct line bundles over these spaces, compute their properties and build up vector bundles consistent with supersymmetry and anomaly cancelation. It turns out that the most interesting coset is SU(3)/U(1)2. This space supports a large number of vector bundles which lead to consistent…

Generalized compactification in heterotic string theory
In this thesis, we consider heterotic string vacua based on a warped product of a four-dimensional domain wall and a six-dimensional internal manifold preserving only two supercharges. Thus, they
Moduli stabilising in heterotic nearly Kähler compactifications
A bstractWe study heterotic string compactifications on nearly Kähler homogeneous spaces, including the gauge field effects which arise at order α′. Using Abelian gauge fields, we are able to solve
Superpotential of Three Dimensional N = 1 Heterotic Supergravity
We dimensionally reduce the ten dimensional heterotic supergravity action on spacetimes of the form M(2,1) × Y , where M(2,1) is three dimensional maximally symmetric Anti de Sitter or Minkowski
Spin(7) compactifications and 1/4-BPS vacua in heterotic supergravity
A bstractWe continue the investigation into non-maximally symmetric compactifications of the heterotic string. In particular, we consider compactifications where the internal space is allowed to
Instantons on conical half-flat 6-manifolds
A bstractWe present a general procedure to construct 6-dimensional manifolds with SU(3)-structure from SU(2)-structure 5-manifolds. We thereby obtain half-flat cylinders and sine-cones over

Yang-Mills solutions on manifolds with $G$-structure
In this thesis I study higher-dimensional instantons and non-BPS Yang-Mills solutions on cones and cylinders over compact G-structure manifolds. Such manifolds appear as internal spaces in heterotic
Moduli in General $SU(3)$-Structure Heterotic Compactifications
In this thesis, we study compactifiations of ten-dimensional heterotic supergravity at O(α'), focusing on the moduli of such compactifications. We begin by studying supersymmetric compactifications
Non-commutativity in Unified Theories and Gravity
First, we briefly review the Coset Space Dimensional Reduction scheme and the results of the best model so far. Then, we present the introduction of fuzzy coset spaces used as extra dimensions and
Heterotic moduli stabilisation and non-supersymmetric vacua
A bstractWe study moduli stabilisation in four-dimensional N = 1 supergravity theories which originate from compactifications of the heterotic string on certain manifolds with SU(3) structure. These

Non-Kähler string backgrounds and their five torsion classes
We discuss the mathematical properties of six-dimensional non-Kahler manifolds which occur in the context of N=1 supersymmetric heterotic and type IIA string compactifications with non-vanishing
Reducing the heterotic supergravity on nearly-Kähler coset spaces
We study the dimensional reduction of the = 1, ten-dimensional Heterotic Supergravity to four dimensions, at leading order in α', when the internal space is a nearly-Kahler manifold. Nearly-Kahler
Nearly Kähler reduction
We consider compactification of type IIA supergravity on nearly Kahler manifolds. These represent a simple class of SU(3) structure manifolds which includes S6 and 3. We exhibit for the first time an

We consider heterotic string solutions based on a warped product of a four-dimensional domain wall and a six-dimensional internal manifold, preserving two supercharges. The constraints on the
Heterotic string compactifications on half-flat manifolds II
In this paper, we continue the analysis of heterotic string compactifications on half-flat mirror manifolds by including the 10-dimensional gauge fields. It is argued, that the heterotic Bianchi
Heterotic compactifications on nearly Kähler manifolds
We consider compactifications of heterotic supergravity on anti-de Sitter space, with a six-dimensional nearly Kähler manifold as the internal space. Completing the model proposed by Frey and Lippert
Dimensional reduction of the heterotic string over nearly-Kähler manifolds
Our aim is to derive the effective action in four dimensions resulting by reducing dimensionally the ten-dimensional = 1 heterotic supergravity coupled to = 1 super Yang-Mills over manifolds

We classify six-dimensional homogeneous nearly Kahler manifolds and give a positive answer to Gray and Wolf's conjecture: every homogeneous nearly Kahler manifold is a Riemannian 3-symmetric space
Symmetries of Coset Spaces and {Kaluza-Klein} Supergravity
Abstract Known theorems about the isometry group of a general coset space G H are reviewed. The Killing vectors on G H are explicitly constructed. Rescalings of the coset vielbeins are discussed, and
