A new equation is derived for large amplitude forced radial oscillations of a bubble in an incident sound field. It includes the effects of acoustic radiation, as in Keller and Kolodner’s equation, and the effects of viscosity and surface tension, as in the modified Rayleigh equation due to Plesset, Noltingk and Neppiras, and Poritsky. The free and forced periodic solutions are computed numerically. For large bubbles, such as underwater explosion bubbles, the free oscillations agree with those…

Viscous decay of nonlinear oscillations of a spherical bubble at large Reynolds number

The long-time viscous decay of large-amplitude bubble oscillations is considered in an incompressible Newtonian fluid, based on the Rayleigh–Plesset equation. At large Reynolds numbers, this is a

Simulation of gas bubble scattering for large Mach-numbers

Integrated calculations of radius oscillations and acoustic scattering from a coated gas bubble in a fluid, is developed. The elastic compression of the fluid is assumed linear, while convective

Nonlinear Oscillations of a Cluster of Bubbles in a Sound Field. Bifurcation Structure.

This paper deals numerically with nonlinear oscillations of spherical bubbles in a sound field. A Governing equation of a cluster of interacting spherical bubbles is obtained by taking account of the

Translational motion of a spherical bubble in an acoustic standing wave of high intensity

Using the Lagrangian formalism, coupled equations of radial and translational motions of a spherical gas bubble in an acoustic wave field are derived. The equation of radial motion is then modified,

Radiative decay of the nonlinear oscillations of an adiabatic spherical bubble at small Mach number

A theoretical study is carried out for bubble oscillation in a compressible liquid with significant acoustic radiation based on the Keller–Miksis equation using a multi-scaled perturbation method.

Mechanisms for Oscillations in Volume of Single Spherical Bubble Due to Sound Excitation in Water

Mechanisms for the evolution of a single spherical bubble subjected to sound excitation in water are studied from the viewpoint of nonlinear dynamics. First, the shooting method is combined with a

The Effect of Viscosity on the Spherical Stability of Oscillating Gas Bubbles

Gas bubbles driven in radial oscillations are subject to an instability of the spherical shape that is opposed by surface tension and viscosity. An exact linear formulation for the study of the

The radiated acoustic pressure and time scales of a spherical bubble

Numerical simulations of violent bubble dynamics are often associated with numerical instabilities at the end of collapse, when a shock wave is emitted. Based on the Keller–Miksis equation, we show
