Pottery from the Bronze Age of southwest Spain has traditionally been approached from a “typological” stand seeking the establishment of chronological sequences. This article examines ceramics from two different Bronze Age sites, a settlement (El Trastejon) and a necropolis (La Traviesa), from an archaeometric viewpoint. The methodology involved includes mineralogical characterization by XRD and optical microscopy, chemical analysis by XRF, and morphometric analysis through digital processing… Expand
La arqueometría de materiales cerámicos : Una evaluación de la experiencia Andaluza
This paper assesses the impact that the introduction of scientific methods for materials characterisation (conventionally grouped under the label of Archaeometry) has had in the methodologicalExpand

Phosphorus in archeological ceramics as evidence of the use of pots for cooking food
Abstract The presence of phosphorus in samples of soil, sediments and water is traditionally considered to be an important indicator of human activity, either archeological or contemporary.Expand
Caracterización textural con análisis de imagen: aplicación en cerámicas prehistóricas de Mallorca (1750-50 a.C.)
Textural analyses of ceramic pastes are essential to the study of the technological choices carried out by potters in the past. In this paper, we focus on defining the significance of texturalExpand
Investigaciones sobre recursos abióticos en la prehistoria reciente de Tierra de Barros y Sierra Morena Occidental
In this work the archaeometric-based research being carried out on abiotic procurement systems of the communities of the 3rd and 2nd millennia BC in the regions of Tierra de Barros (Badajoz) and WestExpand
The late Holocene palaeoecological sequence of Serranía de las Villuercas (southern Meseta, western Spain)
New pollen results and radiocarbon dating from a valley mire in south-western Spain are presented. This is a region where few palaeoecological records have been preserved and the sequence yieldsExpand

The results indicate that significant differences may arise from the application of the various techniques of grain selection and it is important that appropriate procedures be rigorously applied. Expand
Expressions of inequality: settlement patterns, economy and social organization in the southwest Iberian Bronze Age ( c. 1700-1100 BC)
Intensive survey in southwestern Spain has encouraged reassessment of Copper and Bronze Age settlement in the region. This paper explores the issues of social ranking and stratification, andExpand
An image-analysis technique to measure grain-size variation in thin sections of soft clastic sediments
This paper presents a simple and fast image-analysis technique to measure grain-size variation in thin sections of soft elastic sediments. Optical and backscattered electron microscope photographsExpand
