Metals have been studied as terahertz sources for decades. Recent research has shown the potential of metals in generating extremely high THz pulse energy excited by intense laser pulses. To avoid the metal surface debris caused by laser pulses, here, we report the results of the broadband terahertz wave emission from a flowing liquid metal line excited by sub-picosecond laser pulses. The THz signal emitted from the liquid gallium line shows stronger field with broader bandwidth comparing with… Expand

Terahertz Wave Emission from Liquid Metal
We observe the broadband terahertz wave emission from liquid gallium line excited by sub-picosecond laser pulses. THz waveforms from both liquid water line and liquid gallium line with the same pulseExpand
Flowing cryogenic liquid target for terahertz wave generation
Terahertz wave emission from condensed matter excited by intense laser pulses not only reflects the details in laser-matter interaction but also offers bright terahertz wave sources. Flowing liquidExpand
Broadband THz Sources from Gases to Liquids
Matters are generally classified within four states: solid, liquid, gas, and plasma. Three of the four states of matter (solid, gas, and plasma) have been used for THz wave generation with shortExpand
Specialty Optical Fibers for THz Generation: A Review
This chapter describes the state-of-the-art sources of terahertz (THz) radiation, with focus on all-optical fiber-based sources for THz generation. THz technology based on the optical fiber platformExpand

Observation of broadband terahertz wave generation from liquid water
Liquid water is a strong absorber in THz range, making the presence of water a nuisance when collecting measurements within this frequency regime. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the generationExpand
Terahertz emission from a metallic surface induced by a femtosecond optic pulse.
Results of experimental and theoretical investigations on generation of terahertz radiation at the interaction of femtosecond laser pulses with a metal surface are presented and theoretical interpretation for some of the experimental results is proposed based on the model of free electrons in metal. Preference of subpicosecond laser pulses for terahertz wave generation from liquids
Terahertz (THz) wave generation from laser-induced air plasma generally requires a short temporal laser pulse. In contrast, it was observed that THz radiation from ionized liquid water prefers aExpand
Demonstration of Coherent Terahertz Transition Radiation from Relativistic Laser-Solid Interactions.
The present THz transition radiation enables not only a potential tabletop brilliant THz source, but also a novel noninvasive diagnostic for fast electron generation and transport in laser-plasma interactions. Expand
Characterization of 700 μJ T rays generated during high-power laser solid interaction.
The measurement of record-breaking T-Ray pulses with energies no less than 0.7 mJ are reported, revealing that the T rays are generated by the transient field at the rear surface of the solid target. Expand
Multimillijoule coherent terahertz bursts from picosecond laser-irradiated metal foils
A substantial increase in THz pulse energy is reported, as high as tens of mJ, generated by a high-intensity, picosecond laser pulse irradiating a metal foil, opening up the research era of relativistic THz optics. Expand
Terahertz emission from laser-induced microplasma in ambient air
The integration of ambient air plasmas as source and sensor in terahertz time-domain techniques allows spectral measurements covering the elusive terahertz gap (0.1–10 THz), further increasing theExpand
Observation of terahertz emission from a laser-plasma accelerated electron bunch crossing a plasma-vacuum boundary.
Modeling indicates that this broadband source produces about 0.3 microJ per pulse within a 100 mrad angle, and that increasing the transverse plasma size and electron beam energy could provide more than 100 microJ/pulse. Expand

The interaction between high-intensity, ultrashort laser pulses and plasmas leads to the emission of coherent, short-pulse radiation at terahertz frequencies and a model for this effect is discussed and its experimental realization is discussed. Expand
Ablation of solids by femtosecond lasers: ablation mechanism and ablation thresholds for metals and dielectrics
The mechanism of ablation of solids by intense femtosecond laser pulses is described in an explicit analytical form. It is shown that at high intensities when the ionization of the target material isExpand
