IT is gratifying that the editors of the New Naturalist series have taken a wide view of their province, and have provided a volume which presents “a general view of the stage and setting of Britain's Natural History”. With the growing interest in ecological studies, naturalists require to be in creasingly aware of the physical background, of the fundamental differences between the various British regions, and of the factors which lead to their modification.
