Motivated by recent developments in the realm of matter waves, we explore the potential of creating solitary waves on the surface of a torus. This is an intriguing perspective due to the role of curvature in the shape and dynamics of the coherent structures. We find different families of bright solitary waves for attractive nonlinearities including ones localized in both angular directions, as well as waves localized in one direction and homogeneous in the other. The waves localized in both… Expand

Constraints play an important role in dynamical systems. However, the subtle effect of constraints in quantum mechanics is not very well studied. In the present work we concentrate on the quantumExpand

Vortex rings and solitary waves in trapped Bose–Einstein condensates
Abstract. We discuss nonlinear excitations in an atomic Bose–Einstein condensate which is trapped in a harmonic potential. We focus on axially symmetric solitary waves propagating along a cylindricalExpand
Formation and propagation of matter-wave soliton trains
TLDR
The formation of bright solitons of 7Li atoms in a quasi-one-dimensional optical trap is reported, by magnetically tuning the interactions in a stable Bose–Einstein condensate from repulsive to attractive. Expand
Twisted toroidal vortex solitons in inhomogeneous media with repulsive nonlinearity.
TLDR
It is uncovered that stable solitons with this structure can be created, without any linear potential, in the single-component setting with the strength of repulsive nonlinearity growing fast enough from the center to the periphery, for both steep and smooth modulation profiles. Expand
Soliton gyroscopes in media with spatially growing repulsive nonlinearity.
TLDR
The recently introduced model of self-trapping supported by a spatially growing strength of a repulsive nonlinearity gives rise to robust vortex-soliton tori, i.e., three-dimensional vortex solitons, with topological charges S≥1, which are nearly exactly reproduced in an analytical form by the Thomas-Fermi approximation. Nonlinear dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a magnetic waveguide.
TLDR
This work describes the internal and external dynamics of a Bose-Einstein condensate in an anharmonic magnetic waveguide with a theoretical model to high accuracy and test the experimental data for indications of a chaotic behavior. Expand
Solitons in coupled nonlinear Schrödinger models: A survey of recent developments

Experimental observation of oscillating and interacting matter wave dark solitons.
TLDR
An effective particle picture is developed and confirms that the deviation of the observed oscillation frequencies from the asymptotic prediction nu(z)/sqrt 2, where nu( z) is the longitudinal trapping frequency, results from the dimensionality of the system and the soliton interactions. Expand

Investigating the quantum phase transition in a ring from a uniform attractive Bose-Einstein condensate to a localized bright soliton we find that the soliton undergoes transverse collapse at aExpand
Formation of bright matter-wave solitons during the collapse of attractive Bose-Einstein condensates.
TLDR
Bright matter-wave solitons form during the collapse of (85)Rb condensates in a three-dimensional (3D) magnetic trap using a Feshbach resonance to suddenly switch the atomic interactions from repulsive to attractive. Expand
Multiple atomic dark solitons in cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates
We consider the stability and dynamics of multiple dark solitons in cigar-shaped Bose-Einstein condensates. Our study is motivated by the fact that multiple matter-wave dark solitons may naturallyExpand
