OBJECTIVE To examine the factor structure of the Childhood Illness Attitude Scales (CIAS). The CIAS is a 35-item self-report measure based on the Illness Attitudes Scales, designed for use with school-age children. The CIAS measures fears, beliefs, and attitudes associated with health anxiety and abnormal illness behavior in childhood. METHODS CIAS item responses for 201 school-age children were subjected to principal-components analysis with oblique rotation. RESULTS The CIAS was best…

Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the Childhood Illness Attitude Scales
A series of confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were performed on responses from 195 school-age children to the Childhood Illness Attitude Scales (CIAS; Wright & Asmundson, 2003) Three-, modified 3-,

TLDR
The Arabic version of the CIAS provides a suitable tool to investigate the prevalence and severity of childhood anxiety in the Middle East and had good discriminant validity and internal consistency.
The Illness Attitude Scales
TLDR
The clinimetric properties and high sensitivity of the Illness Attitude Scales make them the gold standard for the self-rated assessment of hypochondriacal fears and beliefs.
Health anxiety symptoms in children and adolescents diagnosed with OCD
TLDR
Clinician-rated illness worries and comorbid anxiety disorder were associated with high self-reported HA symptoms and contribute to the understanding of how HA and OCD overlap conceptually in young patients.

Effects of maternal health anxiety on children’s health complaints, emotional symptoms, and quality of life
TLDR
It is suggested that maternal HA only weakly affects children’s own report of HA and thereby may not be a strong risk factor for the development of HA symptoms in childhood, however, mothers with severe HA seem to conceive their children as more ill and present them more often in the health care system which could be an important target for intervention in adult patients.

Psychotic experiences are associated with health anxiety and functional somatic symptoms in preadolescence.
TLDR
PE were significantly associated with HA and FSS over and above general psychopathology in preadolescence and secondary analyses showed that PE were associated with fears, but not help seeking.

TLDR
Correlations between Childhood Illness Attitude Scales total scores and other self-report measures were supportive of the construct-related validity of the Childhood Illnesses Att attitude Scales and suggested that it is a useful measure of health anxiety in school-age children.

Even though the ICD-10-defined hypochondriasis is rare, a form consisting of the triad of disease conviction, associated distress and medical help-seeking is present in primary-care settings in different cultures.

Over a three-week interval, hypochondriacal symptoms remained stable, and hypochondRIacal patients had significantly higher levels of long-term disability than did the comparison patients.

A Regression Equation for the Parallel Analysis Criterion in Principal Components Analysis: Mean and 95th Percentile Eigenvalues.
TLDR
A regression equation is presented for predicting parallel analysis values used to decide the number of principal components to retain and is appropriate for predicting criterion mean eigenvalues and was derived from random data sets containing between 5 and 50 variables and between 50 and 500 subjects.
