In this issue of Cell Stem Cell, Rawlins et al. (2009) use an elegant lineage-tracing system to circumvent technical obstacles that have long limited advances in lung stem cell research and, as a result, definitively clarify the role of Clara cells in lung growth, homeostasis, and repair.
