ABSTRACT Human observers are remarkably adept at detecting and identifying surface boundaries despite incomplete optical information. There is a general consensus that this ability is instantiated by mechanisms of visual interpolation across spatio-temporally sparse elements, a process that may be termed spatiotemporal boundary formation (SBF).
