Light information reaches the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) through a subpopulation of retinal ganglion cells. Previous work raises the possibility that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its high-affinity receptor TrkB may be important as modulators of this excitatory input into the SCN.
