Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a neurotrophin essential for the development of normal respiratory rhythm and ventilatory control. Chronic exposure to Intermittent Hypercapnic Hypoxia (IHH) has been shown to alter ventilatory responses of piglets.
