We derive the boundary conditions for ${\mathrm{MoS}}_{2}$ and similar transition-metal dichalcogenide honeycomb (2H polytype) monolayers with the same type of $\mathbf{k}\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}\mathbf{p}$ Hamiltonian within the continuum model around the K points. In an effective two-band description, the electron-hole symmetry breaking quadratic terms are also taken into account. We model the effect of the edges with a linear edge constraint method that has been applied…

Lateral interfaces of transition metal dichalcogenides: A stable tunable one-dimensional physics platform
• Physics
Physical Review B
• 2019
We study in-plane lateral heterostructures of commensurate transition-metal dichalcogenides, such as ${\mathrm{MoS}}_{2}\text{\ensuremath{-}}{\mathrm{WS}}_{2}$ and
Edge states in dichalcogenide nanoribbons and triangular quantum dots
• Physics
• 2016
The electronic structure of monolayer MoS$_2$ nanoribbons and quantum dots have been investigated by means of an effective $\mathbf{k}\cdot \mathbf{p}$ two-band model. Both systems with borders
Topological nature of in-gap bound states in disordered large-gap monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides
• Physics
• 2016
We propose a physical model based on disordered (a hole punched inside a material) monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) to demonstrate a large-gap quantum valley Hall insulator. We find
Edge modes in zigzag and armchair ribbons of monolayer MoS2.

A mid-gap edge mode is obtained in the zigzag ribbon of monolayer MoS2, which can be traced back to the topological properties of the bulk band structure.
Valley qubit in a gated MoS2 monolayer quantum dot
• Physics
• 2018
The aim of presented research is to design a nanodevice, based on a MoS$_2$ monolayer, performing operations on a well-defined valley qubit. We show how to confine an electron in a gate induced
Band Mixing Effects in InAs/GaAs Quantum Rings and in MoS$$_$$ Quantum Dots Ring-Like Behaving
• Physics
• 2018
The physics of semiconductor quantum rings near the band edge is often well described considering decoupled bands. There are however instances where band coupling leads to relevant changes in the
Collective excitations in a two-component one-dimensional massless Dirac plasma
We study spectra of long wavelength plasma oscillations in a system of two energy splitted one-dimensional (1D) massless Dirac fermion subbands coupled by spin-orbit interaction. Such a system may be
