Nucleophilic, anionic boryl compounds are long-sought but elusive species. We report that reductive cleavage of the boron-bromine bond in N,N′-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2-bromo-2,3-dihydro-1H-1,3,2-diazaborole by lithium naphthalenide afforded the corresponding boryllithium, which is isoelectronic with an N-heterocyclic carbene. The structure of the boryllithium determined by x-ray crystallography was consistent with sp2 boron hybridization and revealed a boron-lithium bond length of 2.291 ± 0…
Boryltrihydroborate: synthesis, structure, and reactivity as a reductant in ionic, organometallic, and radical reactions.
THF provides the first boryl-substituted borohydride: lithium [1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-2, 3-dihydro-1H-1, 3,2-diazaborol-2-yl]trihydroborate, which may share properties of both traditional bor hydride and isoelectronic N-heterocyclic carbene boranes.
Evidence for extensive single-electron-transfer chemistry in boryl anions: isolation and reactivity of a neutral borole radical.
A borolyl anion based on the borole framework has now been found to display single-electron-transfer (SET) reactivity in its reaction with triorganotetrel halides, which has implications for the understanding of boron-based nucleophilic behavior and the emergent role ofboron radicals in synthesis.
Divergent reactivity of nucleophilic 1-bora-7a-azaindenide anions.
While carboxylation of the boron centre was kinetically feasible, the products of B-carboxylated species were not thermodynamically favored relative to the observed C-2 carboxyated species, which were formed preferably due to the generation of both C-C and B-O bonds.
Recent Developments of Boryl Anions : Boron Analogues of Carbanion
This account reviews the chemistry of "boryl anion." Boryl anions can be classified with their metallic counterpart, such as Li, Mg, Cu, and Zn in a similar manner to the classification of

Phosphines with N-heterocyclic boranyl substituents.
DFT studies indicate further that the molecules lack a significant electrophilic character at boron but may act as potential σ-donor/π-acceptor ligands through the phosphorus atom, and suggest the presence of pure single bonds without any contribution from P→B dative π-interactions.
