The technique of computer-assisted transverse axial tomography has been exploited by minor modification of an E.M.I. brain scanner to determine measurements of bone-mineral content in distal radius and ulna. Such measurements are possible independent of adipose tissue subcutaneously or within the bone and irrespective of bony contour.
