OBJECTIVE To study bone mineral density (BMD) in premenopausal women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to evaluate the influence of disease activity and use of corticosteroids. METHODS A cross-sectional study on BMD of 118 premenopausal women with SLE. Patients were divided into 2 groups, 74 who had been treated with corticosteroids and 44 who had not. BMD at lumbar spine, femoral neck, and trochanter was measured. RESULTS BMD in patients without and with corticosteroid treatment…
Four years follow-up of bone mineral density change in premenopausal women with systemic lupus erythematosus.
TLDR
It is suggested that low dose prednisolone may not be detrimental to bone in premenopausal women with SLE during longterm treatment.
Influences on bone mineral density in Malaysian premenopausal systemic lupus erythematosus patients on corticosteroids
TLDR
The duration and cumulative dose of CS intake was significantly correlated to BMD, but not the other commonly assessed risk factors, which suggest that premenopausal patients with SLE on CS should have their BMD measured at regular intervals to fully assess their osteoporosis risk.
BONE MINERAL DENSITY IN PREMENOPAUSAL WOMEN WITH RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS AND SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS
TLDR
Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and SLE had significantly lower BMD values at lumbar spine compared to healthy controls, and the possible relationship between BMD and disease variables was evaluated.
Bone mineral density in systemic lupus erythematosus women one year after rituximab therapy
TLDR
After 1 year, SLE patients with systemic lupus erythematosus patients had lower BMD at both the FN and LS, but the loss was greater in postmenopausal patients who had received rituximab therapy.
Risks factors for low bone mineral density in pre-menopausal Mexican women with systemic lupus erythematosus
TLDR
In the multiple regression analysis, low BMD in the lumbar spine was associated with chronic disease damage and low body mass index (BMI).
Dietary calcium and bone mineral density in premenopausal women with systemic lupus erythematosus
The primary objective of this study was to determine the relationship between dietary calcium intake and bone mineral density (BMD) in premenopausal women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) on
Prevalence and associated factors of low bone mass in adults with systemic lupus erythematosus
TLDR
The prevalence of low BMD is high in SLE patients, and is associated with older age and higher cumulative glucocorticoid dose, and age and cumulative dose of glucocorts are statistically significantly associated with abnormal BMD in multivariate analysis.
Prevalence of and risk factors for low bone mineral density in Japanese female patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
TLDR
A history of high-dose oral corticosteroids was associated with the preservation of BMD at the lumbar spine, however, further study is needed considering the limited sample size.
Prevalence of Osteoporosis in 100 Iraqi Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Case Control Study
TLDR
Prevalence of osteoporosis in Iraqi patients with SLE was 46% at lumbar spine and 15 % at total femur, which may suggest to do early screening for low BMD in patients withSLE for early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Prevalence of and risk factors for low bone mineral density and vertebral fractures in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.
TLDR
The high prevalence of low BMD and vertebral fractures implies that more attention must be paid to the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and fractures in SLE.
