Bleeding symptoms are frequently reported even in otherwise healthy subjects, and differentiating a normal subject from a patient with a mild bleeding disorder (MBD) can be extremely challenging. The concept of bleeding rate, that is, the number of bleeding episodes occurring within a definite time, could be used as the unifying framework reconciling the bleeding risk observed in congenital and acquired coagulopathies into a single picture. For instance, primary prevention trials have shown…

The bleeding score predicts clinical outcomes and replacement therapy in adults with von Willebrand disease.
TLDR
Although the bleeding event-free survival was different in VWD types, only a BS >10 could predict for each type which patient had bleeding events severe enough to require treatment with DDAVP and/or concentrates and may identify patients needing intensive therapeutic regimens.

TLDR
Bleeding severity assessed by such tools has been shown to correlate with the long-term probability of bleeding, so the bleeding assessment could become an important marker of disease severity.

Long-Term Antithrombotic Treatments Prescribed for Cardiovascular Diseases in Patients with Hemophilia: Results from the French Registry
TLDR
The COCHE study confirmed that antithrombotic treatments in PWHs are associated with increased bleeding rates in function of hemophilia-specific factors and also of known factors in the general population.
Prevalence of bleeding symptoms among young adults in Saudi Arabia, a national survey
TLDR
The current study signifies the ethnic distribution and gender disparity of mild bleeding disorders, and highlights the need for national surveillance system in order to improve management of patients with bleeding disorders.
Preoperative screening for bleeding disorders: A comprehensive laboratory assessment of clinical practice
TLDR
The questionnaire could not differentiate between patients with and without hemostatic abnormalities, and the discriminative power of the PT, aPTT, TT, Euglobulin lysis time, PFA and the ISTH‐BAT was limited.

TLDR
The bleeding score, together with baseline VWF levels and family history, have been proposed as more evidence-based criteria for VWD.
Utility of International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis Bleeding Assessment Tool (ISTH-BAT) in Patients with Inherited Bleeding Disorders: A Cross-Sectional Study from Southern India
TLDR
ISTH-BAT is a valuable tool to record lifelong bleeding history and give clues regarding the nature and severity of the bleeding disorder.
Clinical and laboratory variability in a cohort of patients diagnosed with type 1 VWD in the United States.
TLDR
Type 1 VWD in the United States is highly variable, and bleeding symptoms are frequent in this population, and von Willebrand factor laboratory testing and full-length VWF gene sequencing was performed for all index cases and healthy control subjects in a central laboratory.

How to estimate bleeding risk in mild bleeding disorders
TLDR
By reviewing the principal hemorrhagic disorders, this work has tried to identify those entities that could fit a diagnosis of MBD and result, at the same time, in a net benefit for treatment or prophylaxis of patients rather than being simply accurate.
Is my patient a bleeder? A diagnostic framework for mild bleeding disorders.
TLDR
Better standardization of current laboratory assays, progress in the knowledge of fibrinolytic mechanisms and their laboratory evaluation, and new understanding of the factors contributing to platelet-vessel wall interaction should improve the capacity to diagnose a greater proportion of patients with MBDs.
Bleeding scores in inherited bleeding disorders: clinical or research tools?
Summary.  The diagnosis of bleeding disorders is strictly dependent on the presence of bleeding symptoms in the patient, but collection of the bleeding history and its interpretation still remains
Bleeding scores: are they really useful?

TLDR
The ultimate goal would be for bleeding scores to be integrated with the results of standardized laboratory testing to allow for a universal diagnostic approach to patients with suspected bleeding disorders.
The evolution and value of bleeding assessment tools
TLDR
This review of bleeding assessment tools will discuss the modifications of the Vicenza Bleeding Questionnaire that have taken place over the years, as well as the validation studies that have been published.
High prevalence of bleeders of unknown cause among patients with inherited mucocutaneous bleeding. A prospective study of 280 patients and 299 controls.
TLDR
The results support the proposal that low plasma VWF levels, but also platelet function defects, should be considered risk factors rather than unequivocal causes of hemorrhages.
Predictive value of the HAS-BLED and ATRIA bleeding scores for the risk of serious bleeding in a "real-world" population with atrial fibrillation receiving anticoagulant therapy.
TLDR
The findings reinforce the incremental usefulness of the simple HAS-BLED score over other published bleeding risk scores in patients with AF receiving anticoagulant therapy, and show significantly better prediction accuracy than the weighted ATRIA score.
Predictive value of the HAS-BLED and ATRIA bleeding scores for the risk of serious bleeding in a 'real world' anticoagulated atrial fibrillation population.
TLDR
The incremental usefulness of the simple HAS-BLED score over other published bleeding risk scores in patients with AF receiving anticoagulant therapy is reinforced, as it more accurately predicted major bleeding episodes than did the weighted ATRIA risk score.
Prospective evaluation of the clinical utility of quantitative bleeding severity assessment in patients referred for hemostatic evaluation
TLDR
BAT use improves the evaluation of patients with suspected MBD, and the use in a clinical prediction guide based on BAT and activated partial thromboplastin time for the exclusion of Patients with suspectedMBD in a low‐prevalence setting is proposed.
