Gravitation theories selected by requiring that they have a unique anti-de Sitter vacuum with a fixed cosmological constant are studied. For a given dimension d, the Lagrangians under consideration are labeled by an integer k=1,2, . . . ,[(d-1)/2]. Black holes for each d and k are found and are used to rank these theories. A minimum possible size for a localized electrically charged source is predicted in the whole set of theories, except general relativity. It is found that the thermodynamic…

Black hole solutions in d = 5 Chern-Simons gravity

The five dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with a negative cosmological constant becomes, for a special value of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant, a Chern-Simons (CS) theory of gravity. In

Planar AdS black holes in Lovelock gravity with a nonminimal scalar field

A bstractIn arbitrary dimension D, we consider a self-interacting scalar field nonminimally coupled with a gravity theory given by a particular Lovelock action indexed by an integer k. To be more

Black holes with gravitational hair in higher dimensions

A new class of vacuum black holes for the most general gravity theory leading to second order field equations in the metric in even dimensions is presented. These space-times are locally AdS in the

Lovelock black holes with a nonlinear Maxwell field

We derive electrically charged black hole solutions of the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet equations with a nonlinear electrodynamics source in n(≥ 5) dimensions. The spacetimes are given as a warped product M

A Cardy-like formula for rotating black holes with planar horizon

We show that the semiclassical entropy of D−dimensional rotating (an)isotropic black holes with planar horizon can be successfully computed according to a Cardy-like formula. This formula does not

Black Hole Energy in Lovelock Unique Vacuum theories

In this thesis, we explore the possibility to define black hole mass in terms of the Weyl tensor for the entire family of Lovelock-AdS gravity theories. The level of degeneracy $k$ of the

Regular black holes with Λ > 0 and its evolution in Lovelock gravity

In this work it is shown that the thermodynamics of regular black holes with a cosmological horizon, which are solutions of Lovelock gravity, determines that they must evolve either into a state

Regular black holes and its thermodynamics in Lovelock gravity

In this work two new families of non-singular or regular black hole solutions are displayed. These black holes behave as de Sitter space near its center and have a well defined AdS asymptotic region

Abstract:We propose a procedure for computing the boundary stress tensor associated with a gravitating system in asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. Our definition is free of ambiguities encountered

Higher-dimensional gravity, propagating torsion and ads gauge invariance

The most general theory of gravity in d dimensions which leads to second-order field equations for the metric has [(d-1)/2] free parameters. It is shown that requiring the theory to have the maximum

Chern-Simons Supergravities with Off-Shell Local Superalgebras

A new family of supergravity theories in odd dimensions is presented. The Lagrangian densities are Chern-Simons forms for the connection of a supersymmetric extension of the anti-de Sitter algebra.

A new theorem on space-time singularities is presented which largely incorporates and generalizes the previously known results. The theorem implies that space-time singularities are to be expected if
