Black holes in anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime are known to be thermodynamically stable against radiation, unlike their asymptotically flat counterparts. Moreover, Hawking and Page discovered that they exhibit a first-order phase transition. This was reinterpreted by Witten using the AdS/CFT correspondence as a confinement/deconfinement transition in the quark-gluon plasma. Extending the gauge/gravity correspondence to the fluid/gravity correspondence, it was shown that there is an exact…

Schwarzschild Black Hole in Anti-De Sitter Space

We review several aspects of anti-De Sitter (AdS) spaces in different dimensions, and of four dimensional Schwarzschild anti-De Sitter (SAdS) black hole.

Phase Transitions of Quintessential AdS Black Holes in M-theory/Superstring Inspired Models

We study $d$-dimensional $AdS$ black holes surrounded by Dark Energy (DE), embedded in $D$-dimensional M-theory/superstring inspired models having $AdS_d \times \mathbb{S}^{d+k}$ space-time with

Large rotating AdS black holes from fluid mechanics

We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to argue that large rotating black holes in global AdSD spaces are dual to stationary solutions of the relativistic Navier-Stokes equations on SD−2. Reading off the

Thermodynamics of black holes in anti-de Sitter space

The Einstein equations with a negative cosmological constant admit black hole solutions which are asymptotic to anti-de Sitter space. Like black holes in asymptotically flat space, these solutions

General nonextremal rotating black holes in minimal five-dimensional gauged supergravity.

The general solution for nonextremal charged rotating black holes in five-dimensional minimal gauged supergravity is constructed, and it is shown how supersymmetric solutions arise in a Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield limit.

Anti-de Sitter space and holography

Recently, it has been proposed by Maldacena that large $N$ limits of certain conformal field theories in $d$ dimensions can be described in terms of supergravity (and string theory) on the product of

Shear viscosity of strongly coupled N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills plasma.

Using the anti-de Sitter/conformal field theory correspondence, the shear viscosity eta of the finite-temperature N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory is related with the absorption cross section of low-energy gravitons by a near-extremal black three-brane and it is shown that in the limit of zero frequency this cross section coincides with the area of the horizon.

Black Holes in Higher Dimensions

This work discusses black-hole solutions of maximal supergravity theories, including black holes in anti-de Sitter space, and reviews Myers-Perry solutions, black rings, and solution-generating techniques.

Five-dimensional gauged supergravity black holes with independent rotation parameters

We construct new nonextremal rotating black hole solutions in SO(6) gauged five-dimensional supergravity. Our solutions are the first such examples in which the two rotation parameters are

TASI Lectures: Introduction to the AdS/CFT Correspondence

This is an introductory review of the AdS/CFT correspondence and of the ideas that led to its formulation. We show how comparison of stacks of D3-branes with corresponding supergravity solutions
