Black Holes at the LHC

  title={Black Holes at the LHC},
  author={Savas Dimopoulos and Greg Landsberg},
If the scale of quantum gravity is near a TeV, the LHC will be producing one black hole (BH) about every second. The BH decays into prompt, hard photons and charged leptons is a clean signature with low background. The absence of significant missing energy allows the reconstruction of the mass of the decaying BH. The correlation between the BH mass and its temperature, deduced from the energy spectrum of the decay products, can test experimentally the higher dimensional Hawking evaporation law… Expand
Planck scale black holes - Theory vs. observations
In this paper we present the status of the physics of Planck scale black holes with particular reference to their conjectured production in particle accelerator experiments at the terascale. AfterExpand
Higgs vacuum decay from particle collisions
We examine the effect of large extra dimensions on black hole seeded vacuum decay using the Randall-Sundrum model as a prototype for warped extra dimensions. We model the braneworld black hole by aExpand
Search for Microscopic Black Hole Signatures at the Large Hadron Collider
A search for microscopic black hole production and decay in pp collisions at a centerof-mass energy of 7 TeV has been conducted by the CMS Collaboration at the LHC, using a data sample correspondingExpand
Time Machine at the LHC
Recently, black hole and brane production at CERN's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has been widely discussed. We suggest that there is a possibility to test causality at the LHC. We argue that if theExpand
2 1 M ay 2 00 2 Black holes in the lab ?
If TeV-scale gravity describes nature, black holes will be produced in particle accelerators, perhaps even with impressive rates at the Large Hadron Collider. Their decays, largely via the HawkingExpand
Search for the Mini Black Hole in the Multijet Final State in pp Collisions at √ s = 7 TeV
A mini black hole search is motivated by theories of extra dimensions. ADD model is one of extra dimensions theories in which all extra dimensions are compactified in cylinder shape. In the model,Expand

  • 2011
A search for microscopic black hole production in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC is presented using a 2011 data sample corresponding to anExpand
Angular correlations in TeV-gravity black hole events
A bstractWe perform a parton level study of angular correlations, in higher dimensional black hole scenarios at the LHC. We start by discussing some features of the angular spectrum in the highExpand
Rotating black holes at future colliders II: Anisotropic scalar field emission
This is the sequel to the first paper of the series, where we have discussed the Hawking radiation from five-dimensional rotating black holes for spin 0, 1/2, and 1 brane fields in the low frequencyExpand
Probing Alpha-Vacua of Black Holes in LHC
Motivated by the idea of alpha-vacua in Schwarzschild spacetime, we studied the deformed spectrum of Hawking radiation. Such a deformation would leave signatures on the small black hole evaporationExpand
