Bioluminescence-based assays to indicate antimicrobial susceptibility have been developed and validated for recombinant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Mycobacterium bovis BCG, Mycobacterium avium, and Mycobacterium intracellulare expressing an integrated eukaryotic luciferase gene.
