We report on the screening for biological activities of organic extracts from seven strains that represent four varieties of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans, that is A. pullulans var. melanogenum, A. pullulans var. pullulans, A. pullulans var. subglaciale and A. pullulans var. namibiae. We monitored haemolysis, cytotoxicity, antioxidant capacity and growth inhibition against three bacterial species. The haemolytic activity of A. pullulans var. pullulans EXF-150 strain was due to five…
An insight into the iron acquisition and homeostasis in Aureobasidium melanogenum HN6.2 strain through genome mining and transcriptome analysis
TLDR
This study presents the first genetic blueprint of iron acquisition and homeostasis for A. melanogenum, a unique yeast strain who can produce the siderophore of fusigen under iron starvation to guarantee its survival.

Production of antibacterial compounds by phylloplane-inhabiting yeasts and yeastlike fungi
TLDR
The production of antibacterial compounds by yeasts and yeastlike fungi isolated from the phylloplane is reported and two distinct antibiotics were produced by an isolate of A. pullulans in liquid culture during both the logarithmic and the stationary phases of growth.
Low Water Activity Induces the Production of Bioactive Metabolites in Halophilic and Halotolerant Fungi
TLDR
The results indicate that selected halotolerant and halophilic species synthesize specific bioactive metabolites under conditions that represent stress for non-adapted species.
Redefinition of Aureobasidium pullulans and its varieties
TLDR
To characterise the genetic variability of Aureobasidium pullulans strains originating from the Arctic and strains originating pan-globally, a multilocus molecular analysis was performed and a partial elongase-encoding gene was successfully used as a phylogenetic marker at the (infra-)specific level.
Chemical and biological characterization of siderophore produced by the marine-derived Aureobasidium pullulans HN6.2 and its antibacterial activity
After analysis using HPLC and electronic ion spray mass spectroscopy, the purified siderophore produced by the marine-derived Aureobasidium pullulans HN6.2 was found to be fusigen. The purified
Antioxidant activity of melanin pigment from Streptomyces species D5 isolated from Desert soil, Rajasthan, India
The present study reports antioxidant activity of melanin pigment from actinomycete strain D5 isolated from Thar Desert soil, Rajasthan, India. Melanin production by the strain D5 was confirmed using
Haemolytic Fungi Isolated from Sago Starch in Papua New Guinea
TLDR
This study investigated whether fungi isolated from Papua New Guinean sago starch were haemolytic, and partial fractionation of extracts suggested that both polar and non-polar haemorytic components had haEMolytic activity in vitro.
Possible Roles for Mannitol and Mannitol Dehydrogenase in the Biotrophic Plant Pathogen Uromyces fabae1
TLDR
Kinetic and thermodynamic analyses of the MAD1p catalyzed reactions indicate that the enzyme might be responsible for the production of mannitol in haustoria and for the utilization of manNitol in spores, an ideal strategy for the fungal pathogen.
Morphogenesis and adhesion of Aureobasidium pullulans
Two strains of the dimorphic fungus Aureobasidium pullulans were grown in liquid and on solid media varying in carbon and nitrogen content, and on leaf surfaces. Hyphae were observed in all systems
