Nonlinear imaging using nanocrystals has advantages over fluorescent dyes. Highly nonlinear optically susceptible ZnO was synthesized for the purpose of bioimaging. ZnO nanoparticles with enhanced second and third order nolinearity have been utilized for nonlinear in vitro imaging of living cells.
