Ecbolin A and ecbolin B were isolated from ethyl acetate extract of Ecbolium viride (Forsk.) Alston root and evaluated for larvicidal and growth disturbance activities against Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae). For larvicidal activity, the third instar larvae of A. aegypti were exposed to different concentrations viz., 1.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 ppm for each compound. Among the two compounds screened, ecbolin B recorded highest larvicidal activity with LC50 and LC90 values of 0.70 and 1.42 ppm… Expand
Effect of the medicinal plant Withania somnifera on the development of a medico-veterinary pest Chrysomya megacephala (Diptera: Calliphoridae)
ABSTRACT Topical administration of root and seed extracts (5, 10, 15 and 20 µg/µL) of Withania somnifera to 0, 1, 2, and 3 days post-moult third instar larvae of Chrysomya megacephala resulted inExpand
Inhibition of gut proteases and development of dengue vector, Aedes aegypti by Allium sativum protease inhibitor
Abstract The paper describes the bio efficacy of a protease inhibitor; isolated from Allium sativum ‘garlic’ (ASPI); against Aedes aegypti mosquito, a well-known transmitter of dengue andExpand
Toxicity and insect growth regulatory activities of medicinal plant, Withania somnifera , in flesh fly, Sarcophaga ruficornis (Diptera: Sarcophagidae)
Topical administration of root extracts of W. somnifera to 0–3-day-old third instar larvae of S. ruficornis resulted into severe disruption of development, moulting, and metamorphosis producing several detrimental effects such as toxicity, prolongation of larval life, ecdysial stasis, abnormal pupariation, reduced normal pupariations and adult emergence, and development of pupal-adult mosaics and adultoids. Whole Genome Sequences of Aedes aegypti (Linn.) Field Isolates from Southern India
This is the first report of genome sequences of A. aegypti field isolates from India which reveals variants specific to the wild population, a useful resource which will facilitate development of robust integrated vector control strategies for management of Aedes-borne diseases through genetic manipulation of local mosquito populations. Larvicidal and pupicidal activities of ecbolin A and ecbolin B isolated from Ecbolium viride (Forssk.) Alston against Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae)
The present results suggest that ecbolin B could be used as a mosquitocidal agent against C. quinquefasciatus. Expand
Effect of niloticin, a protolimonoid isolated from Limonia acidissima L. (Rutaceae) on the immature stages of dengue vector Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae).
The results indicate that niloticin could be used as a potential natural mosquitocide and recorded strong larvicidal and pupicidal activities against Aedes aegypti. Expand
Larvicidal and growth-inhibiting activities of extract and benzopyrans from Hypericum polyanthemum (Guttiferae) against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
The results demonstrated the potential of H. polyanthemum as source of new insecticides and inhibited the pupae formation and adults emergence of A. aegypti at LC 10 and LC 20. Expand
Larvicidal activity of pectolinaringenin from Clerodendrum phlomidis L. against Culex quinquefasciatus Say and Aedes aegypti L. (Diptera: Culicidae)
The results of this study show that the chloroform extract of C. phlomidis can be used as a potent source and pectolinaringenin as a new natural mosquito larvicidal agent. Expand
Larvicidal Activity of Compounds Isolated from Asarum heterotropoides Against Culex Pipiens Pallens, Aedes aegypti, and Ochlerotatus togoi (Diptera: Culicidae)
It is suggested that constituents of A. heterotropoides root steam distillate merit further study as potential mosquito larvicides due to global efforts to reduce the level of highly toxic synthetic pesticides in the aquatic environment. Expand
Larvicidal activity of lignans identified in Phryma leptostachya Var. asiatica roots against three mosquito species.
The insecticidal activity of phytochemicals isolated from the roots of Phryma leptostachya var. asiatica against third instar larvae of Culex pipiens pallens, Aedes aegypti, and Ocheratatos togoi wasExpand
Susceptibility of Aedes aegypti (L) to the insect growth regulators diflubenzuron and methoprene in Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais.
While diflubenzuron caused great mortality in all larval instars, methoprene was more effective when the mosquito was exposed from the start of the fourth larvalinstar onwards and presented greater residual activity than did their respective technical formulations. Expand
The use of commercial saponin from Quillaja saponaria bark as a natural larvicidal agent against Aedes aegypti and Culex pipiens.
While bark saponins had a toxic effect on larvae there was no effect on egg hatchability in either species, and the results suggest that, in addition to their known activities, saponin can also serve as natural larvicidal compounds. Expand
Larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti of pacharin from Bauhinia acuruana
Pacharin, obtained in pure form from fraction eluted with ethyl ether, was evaluated for their larvicidal effects against A. aegypti and indicates pacharin as a potential natural larvicide. Expand
