Four histone-like proteins a, b, c, d were extracted with 0.2 M H2SO4 from soluble nuclear chromatin of Trypanosoma brucei brucei procyclic culture forms and purified by FPLC reversed phase chromatography. The amino acid composition of these proteins and their electrophoretic mobilities in three different gel systems strongly indicated their core histone nature.
