Riboflavin carrier protein (RCP) is a growth- and development-specific protein. Here, we characterized the expression of this protein in prostate cancer by polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies against chicken RCP. RCP was localized to both androgen-dependent and independent prostate cancer cell lines. Compared to controls, RCP was over-expressed in all 45 prostate adenocarcinomas, irrespective of the Gleason's score or the stage of the disease. The identified RCP had a molecular weight of 38…

Influence of Riboflavin Targeting on Tumor Accumulation and Internalization of Peptostar Based Drug Delivery Systems.
TLDR
It is concluded that passive accumulation is dominating the accumulation of peptostars, while tumor cell internalization is strongly promoted by riboflavin targeting.
In vivo evaluation of riboflavin receptor targeted fluorescent USPIO in mice with prostate cancer xenografts
TLDR
The hypothesis that targeting riboflavin receptors is an efficient approach to accumulate nanomedicines in tumors opening perspectives for the development of diagnostic and therapeutic systems is strengthened.
Riboflavin-Targeted Drug Delivery
TLDR
This review article summarizes knowledge on RFVT expression in healthy and pathological tissues, discusses riboflavin internalization pathways, and provides an overview of RF-targeted diagnostics and therapeutics.
Riboflavin-Conjugated Multivalent Dendrimer Platform for Cancer-Targeted Drug and Gene Delivery
TLDR
The design principles and proof of concept studies presented here are strongly supportive of the promising potential of RF-conjugated nanoparticles for delivery and imaging applications in tumors.
Riboflavin immobilized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles carried with n-butylidenephthalide as targeting-based anticancer agents
TLDR
The level of cysteine-aspartic acid protease 3 in the resultant cell lysate obtained after treatment by BP-Fe3O4@RFMP MNPs is evaluated to demonstrate that apoptosis is mainly involved in the growth inhibition of target cells.
Biophysical characterization of a riboflavin-conjugated dendrimer platform for targeted drug delivery.
TLDR
The present study describes the biophysical characterization of generation-five poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers conjugated with riboflavin (RF) as a cancer-targeting platform and finds greater protein-conjugate stability is achieved with the N-3 series and at lower ligand valency.
Bioanalytical Screening of Riboflavin Antagonists for Targeted Drug Delivery - A Thermodynamic and Kinetic Study.
TLDR
The identification of a novel class of dual acting riboflavin antagonists that target rib oflavin receptor for cellular uptake and display multifunctional activities upon cellular entry is described.
Refinement of adsorptive coatings for fluorescent riboflavin-receptor-targeted iron oxide nanoparticles.
TLDR
For USPIOs targeted with riboflavin derivatives the use of spacers with increasing numbers of phosphate groups does not improve either zeta potential or the particles' stability, but rather detaches the targeting moieties from their surface, leading to lower cellular uptake.
Force spectroscopy of multivalent binding of riboflavin-conjugated dendrimers to riboflavin binding protein.
TLDR
Results appears to indicate that multivalent interactions are resulting in changes to rupture force and kinetic off-rates in riboflavin binding protein interactions.

Riboflavin carrier protein: A serum and tissue marker for breast carcinoma
TLDR
Analysis of serum RCP levels in pre‐ and post‐menopausal women with clinically diagnosed breast cancer at early and advanced stages of the disease and compared these levels with those in normal age‐matched control volunteers suggests that measurement of circulatory RCP and the immunohistochemical staining pattern of RCP could be exploited as an additional marker in diagnosis/prognosis of breast cancer in women.

TLDR
Results show increased serum levels of RCP in breast adenocarcinoma patients and suggest that RCP levels may be useful as a new marker for breast cancer, and suggests that the RCP assay may be a useful adjunct to present screening technology.
Biochemical characterization of recombinant chicken riboflavin carrier protein
TLDR
The studies on the biochemical characterization of the recombinant proteins indicated that though the ligand binding domain assumed near-native conformation, as determined by immunological methods, it did not bind riboflavin, suggesting the interdependence of the two domains for proper organization of the rib oflavin binding pocket.
Recognition, Cointernalization, and Recycling of an Avian Riboflavin Carrier Protein in Human Placental Trophoblasts
TLDR
M mammalian placental trophoblasts exhibit specific carrier protein dependence that sequesters and essentially mediates RF internalization via the proposed receptor-mediated endocytic pathway.
Prospects of riboflavin carrier protein (RCP) as an antifertility vaccine in male and female mammals.
TLDR
Findings suggest that RCP, or its defined fragments, could be a novel, first generation vaccine for regulating fertility in both the sexes.
Immunological relatedness of chicken and human riboflavin carrier protein.
TLDR
A high level of immunological similarities among linear epitopes observed may reflect the degree of conservation of local conformations among linear antigenic determinants shared by the two evolutionarily distant homologous proteins.
