beta-arrestin is a cytosolic protein thought to be responsible for uncoupling agonist-activated beta 2-adrenergic receptors from their guanine-nucleotide-binding proteins (G-protein) subsequent to receptor phosphorylation by the beta-adrenergic receptor kinase (beta ARK).
