A polymer with many pendent galactose residues was prepared by atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of galactose-carrying vinyl monomer, 2-lactobionamidoethyl methacrylate (LAMA), with a disulfide-carrying ATRP initiator, 2-(2'-bromoisobutyroyl)ethyl disulfide (DT-Br).
