The focus of our study, the gated chloride channel known as the GABA (type A) receptor, is well known for neuronal inhibition and is a prime target for pharmacological intervention. Its extracellular ligand-binding domain and the four transmembrane helices (TM1-4) are highly-conserved and well-characterized.
