46 Computer Billion-Transistor Architectures T he circumstances in which computer architects will find themselves in the next 15 years are truly daunting. By the end of this period, microprocessors will have more than a billion logic transistors on a single chip. Tiny transistors and wires will have feature sizes less than a tenth of a micron.
