Aluminum smelting is an energy-intensive electrolytic process that is widely used to produce aluminum. The electricity cost thereby constitutes a significant portion of the total operation cost. At the same time, the smelting process is able to change its power consumption both accurately and quickly by controlling the pots' DC voltage, without affecting the production quality. Hence, an aluminum smelter has both the motivation and the ability to participate in demand-side management. By…

Flexibility Scheduling for Large Customers
TLDR
A novel decision-making tool for enabling large customers to determine how they adjust their electricity usage from normal consumption patterns in expectation of gaining profit in response to changes in prices and incentive payments offered by the system operators.
Flexibility Scheduling for Large Customers
TLDR
The proposed model simultaneously determines the optimal integration of the flexibility options including shifting demand and utilizing onsite generation and energy storage systems, along with energy procurement from the grid that allows the large customers to optimize their energy portfolio from different sources including bilateral contracts and the market.
A Bi-level Programming Guiding Electrolytic Aluminum Load for Demand Response
TLDR
Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed bi-level programming can not only reduce the operational cost of the power system, but also increase the profit of the electrolytic aluminum plant when it provides DR services.
A Game Theoretical Pricing Mechanism for Multi-Area Spinning Reserve Trading Considering Wind Power Uncertainty
The rapid development of wind power has led to an increased demand for spinning reserve in power systems today. However, one of the most severe challenges to China's power systems is the mismatch
