We analyze a bi-gravity model based on the first order formalism, having as fundamental variables two tetrads but only one Lorentz connection. We show that on a large class of backgrounds its linearization agrees with general relativity. At the non-linear level, additional degrees of freedom appear, and we reveal the mechanism hiding them around the special backgrounds. We further argue that they do not contain a massive graviton, nor the Boulware-Deser ghost. The model thus propagates only one… Expand

Quantum cosmology of a dynamical Lambda
By allowing torsion into the gravitational dynamics one can promote the cosmological constant, $\Lambda$, to a dynamical variable in a class of quasi-topological theories. In this paper we perform aExpand

A remarkably simple theory of 3d massive gravity
A bstractWe propose and study a new action for three-dimensional massive gravity. This action takes a very simple form when written in terms of connection and triad variables, but the connection canExpand
New Kinetic Terms for Massive Gravity and Multi-gravity: A No-Go in Vielbein Form
We reconsider the possibility of a class of new kinetic terms in the first order (vielbein) formulation of massive gravity and multi-gravity. We find that new degrees of freedom emerge which are notExpand
Chiral description of massive gravity
A bstractWe propose and study a new first order version of the ghost-free massive gravity. Instead of metrics or tetrads, it uses a connection together with Plebanski’s chiral 2-forms as fundamentalExpand
Pauli-Fierz mass term in modified Plebanski gravity
A bstractWe study SO(4) BF theory plus a general quadratic potential, which describes a bi-metric theory of gravity. We identify the profile of the potential leading to a Pauli-Fierz mass term forExpand
Resummation of massive gravity.
TLDR
Four-dimensional covariant nonlinear theories of massive gravity are constructed which are ghost-free in the decoupling limit to all orders, and the Hamiltonian constraint is maintained at least up to and including quartic order in nonlinearities, hence excluding the possibility of the Boulware-Deser ghost up to this order. New kinetic interactions for massive gravity
We show that there can be no new Lorentz invariant kinetic interactions free from the Boulware–Deser ghost in four dimensions in the metric formulation of gravity, beyond the standardExpand
Gauge Assisted Quadratic Gravity: A Framework for UV Complete Quantum Gravity
We discuss a variation of quadratic gravity in which the gravitational interaction remains weakly coupled at all energies, but is assisted by a Yang-Mills gauge theory which becomes strong at theExpand

We address the consistency of Hořava's proposal for a theory of quantum gravity from the low-energy perspective. We uncover the additional scalar degree of freedom arising from the explicit breakingExpand
Nonlinear Partially Massless from Massive Gravity
We show that consistent nonlinear partially massless models cannot be obtained starting from “f-g” massive gravity, with “f” the embedding de Sitter space. The obstruction, which is also the sourceExpand
On choice of connection in loop quantum gravity
We investigate the quantum area operator in the loop approach based on the Lorentz covariant Hamiltonian formulation of general relativity. We show that there exists a two-parameter family of LorentzExpand
