OBJECTIVE To systematically review the accuracy of modern laboratory tests for the diagnosis of serious bacterial infection in newborns. METHODS The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases were searched using the keywords newborn, infection, sepsis, and diagnosis.
