At this point I shall return to the subject matter of Chapter 4, in which I discussed the phenomenon of parasocial relationships. To recap, these are relationships formed between viewers and celebrities (or anyone who appears on the television), in which interaction seems to be unilateral, and it could be argued that they are not ‘relationships’ at all.
