A combination of molecular modeling, DFT calculations, and advanced solid-state NMR experiments is used to elucidate the supramolecular structure of a series of benzoxazine oligomers. Intramolecular hydrogen bonds are characterized and identified as the driving forces for ring-shape and helical conformations of trimeric and tetrameric units. In fast MAS (1)H NMR spectra, the resonances of the protons forming the hydrogen bonds can be assigned and used for validating and refining the structure…

Effects of structural differences on the NMR chemical shifts in isostructural dipeptides.
TLDR
The analysis teases apart some, but not all, structural contributors to the observed differences the solid-state NMR chemical shifts, and finds good correlation between the backbone dihedral angles and the Cα1 and Cα2 shifts.
The impact of the amide connectivity on the assembly and dynamics of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamides in the solid state
Solid-state NMR experiments as well as extensive Car–Parrinello Molecular Dynamics simulations are used to study the dependence of supramolecular self-organization of benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxamides
Recent advances in solid-state MAS NMR methodology for probing structure and dynamics in polymeric and supramolecular systems.
TLDR
It is shown that solid-state NMR exhibits marked sensitivity to key intra- and intermolecular hydrogen-bonding and π-π interactions, allowing, for example, the very accurate determination of internuclear distances as well as the probing of dynamics over a very wide range of timescales.
Solid‐state NMR studies of hydrogen bonding networks and proton transport pathways based on anion and cation dynamics
TLDR
The alkyl group is shown to slow the correlation times for anion reorientation, when compared at ambient temperature, and it is also apparent that the lowered lattice energy of the salt lowers the activation energy and allows good dynamics at intermediate temperatures in both the benzimidazolium ethylphosphonate and in the HBr adduct of 1,10‐(1‐H‐imidzol‐5‐yl)decanephosphonic acid.
Determining the geometry of hydrogen bonds in solids with picometer accuracy by quantum-chemical calculations and NMR spectroscopy.
TLDR
Solid-state NMR and quantum-chemical methods ideally complement each other and, in a combined manner, represent a powerful approach for reliable, high-precision structure determination whenever scattering techniques are inapplicable.
Vibrational signatures of cation-anion hydrogen bonding in ionic liquids: a periodic density functional theory and molecular dynamics study.
TLDR
Hydrogen bonding in alkylammonium based protic ionic liquids was studied using density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations and the signature of cation-anion hydrogen bonding was observed.
Crystalline diamond polymorphs analyzed with first-principles C-13 NMR chemical shift calculations
We present the fully periodic calculation of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts in crystalline diamond polymorphs within density functional theory. The carbon atoms in these systems
Powder crystallography of pharmaceutical materials by combined crystal structure prediction and solid-state 1H NMR spectroscopy.
TLDR
For cocaine, flutamide and flufenamic acid, it is found that the assigned (1)H isotropic chemical shifts provide sufficient discrimination to determine the correct structures from a set of predicted structures using the root-mean-square deviation between experimentally determined and calculated chemical shifts.
First principles and experimental 1H NMR signatures of solvated ions: The case of HCl(aq).
TLDR
From first-principles calculations, it is shown that the individual contributions of Eigen and Zundel ions, regular water molecules, and the chlorine solvation shell to the NMR line are very distinct and almost independent of the acid concentration.
