Using a high-performance liquid chromatography method, we measured seven commonly prescribed benzodiazepines (chlordiazepoxide, nitrazepam, nordiazepam, oxazepam, lorazepam, temazepam and diazepam) in 100 urine samples obtained from patients attending the Leeds Addiction Unit. All of the urines selected for investigation were positive for benzodiazepines using an EMIT (Enzyme Immunoassay) screen. Forty-four of the urines contained a range of benzodiazepines, none of which had been prescribed…

Micro-Extraction of Commonly Abused Benzodiazepines for Urinary Screening by Liquid Chromatography

TLDR
The micro-extraction procedure allowed rapid sample processing, which is important for routine sample handling, and the method is reliable and sensitive, uses small volumes (100μL) of urine and is suitable for the detection and quantification of low concentrations of benzodiazepines.

Limitations of EMIT Benzodiazepine Immunoassay for Monitoring Compliance of Patients With Benzodiazepine Therapy Even After Hydrolyzing Glucuronide Metabolites in Urine to Increase Cross-Reactivity: Comparison of Immunoassay Results With LC-MS/MS Values

TLDR
Patients compliance with benzodiazepine therapy must be monitored using a chromatographic method, and the effect of hydrolyzing such glucuronide before analysis is studied to reevaluate suitability of Enzyme multiplied immunoassay technique benzdiazepine immunoASSay for monitoring compliance withBenzodiazepines.

Solid-phase microextraction and GC-ECD of benzophenones for detection of benzodiazepines in urine.

TLDR
A new separation technique called solid-phase microextraction (SPME), which can integrate extraction, concentration, sampling and sample introduction into one single procedure, has been employed to extract the products of benzodiazepines from urine after acid hydrolysis, although benzophenone recoveries by DI-SPME were rather low.

Systematic Evaluation and Validation of Benzodiazepines Confirmation Assay Using LC-MS-MS.

TLDR
The proposed technique is robust and suitable for efficiently monitoring the numerous benzodiazepines that occur in urine samples and the accuracy, carryover, extraction recovery, detection limit, matrix effect, quantification limit and precision of the method were validated.

Analysis of forensically relevant drugs in blood and urine by conventional and advanced liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry methods

TLDR
The present work intended to evaluate the analysis of forensically relevant drugs in blood and urine by conventional and advanced LC-MS/MS methods, and the new trend, on-line SPE-LC- MS/MS (Symbiosis), for the quantification of hallucinogens and other related compounds in urine.

Co-abuse of opiates and benzodiazepines

TLDR
Patients dependent on benzodiazepines and opiates were significantly older, had been admitted for methadone stabilisation and were more likely to have been prescribed a methad one maintenance programme prior to admission.

Urine drug screening: practical guide for clinicians.

TLDR
Pagmatic concepts summarized in this article should minimize the potential risks of misinterpreting urine drug screens and the potential pitfalls, such as adulteration, substitution, and dilution of urine samples, which can lead to serious medical or social consequences.

Urine Drug Screening : Practical Guide for Clinicians REVIEW

TLDR
Potential false-positive results and false-negative results that occur with immunoassays of amphetamines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, and phencyclidine and with alcohol, benzodiazepines, and tricyclic antidepressants are discussed.

The benzodiazepines as drugs of abuse.

Patterns of benzodiazepine abuse and dependence.

TLDR
Two groups of subjects emerged: patients who used only benzodiazepines for long periods of time and those who used Benzodiazepine in the context of multiple drug abuse, where Diazepam was most frequently alleged in both groups, but relative preference for other benzodiazines differed.

TLDR
Patients with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) were at higher risk for an anxiolytic disorder as were women and the unemployed as well as recent users of benzodiazepines, who were more likely to have a lifetime DSM-III anxiety disorder.

Use and abuse of benzodiazepines. Issues relevant to prescribing.

TLDR
A comprehensive review of the extensive experimental, clinical, and epidemiologic literature pertinent to the use and abuse of benzodiazepines indicates that these two predominant routes of use are abuse and dependence.

Temazepam misuse in a group of injecting drug users.

TLDR
A study of 23 Temazepam injectors shows that the group still find the gel-filled preparation readily injectable, but it appears to be more problematic in causing medical complications including superficialThrombophlebitis, abscesses and deep venous thrombosis.

TLDR
There has been, however, a striking lack of unanimity concerning the incidence and prevalence of specific psychiatric disorders or symptom clusters of drug addicts.
