OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of heparin on thrombus formation and infection associated with use of central venous and pulmonary artery catheters. DATA SOURCES We used MEDLINE, EMBASE, citation review of relevant primary and review articles, personal files, and contact with expert informants.
