BACKGROUND Sepsis induces microvascular inflammation and production of the vasodilator nitric oxide (NO) via endothelial and inducible nitric oxide synthase (eNOS or NOS III and iNOS or NOS II). Statins are cholesterol-lowering drugs; however, they also attenuate inflammation.
