Expand
Molecular orbitals and the virial theorem
AbstractIt is shown that for H2+ and H2 an atomic orbital exponent ζ chosen from the condition $$\overline {\Delta T}$$ = - †Eobs. gives calculated total energies which are insignificantly differentExpand

The virial theorem for non-coulombic interactions and scaled approximate wave functions
The virial theorem for various not necessarily homogeneous potential functions V(r) is derived. It is proved in a transparent way that approximate wave functions at optimal scale satisfy the generalExpand
CORRIGENDUM: The virial and Hellmann-Feynman theorems of an inhomogeneous electron gas
The virial theorem of an arbitrarily inhomogeneous electron gas together with the minimum condition for the ground state is formulated and, as a special case, a finite electron gas with constantExpand
The quantum mechanical virial theorem and the absence of positive energy bound states of Schrödinger operators
For a class of potentialsq which may become as singular asr−2 at the origin we show that the eigenfunctionsu of the Friedrichs extensionTFof (−Δ+q)↾C0∞(Rn/{0}) satisfy the virial theoremExpand
Pohozaev identity and Virial Theorem for the Dirac–Coulomb operator
In this note, we give an alternative proof of the Virial Theorem for the Dirac equation perturbed with a Coulomb-like potential, result which goes back to Albeverio (Ann Phys 71:167–276, 1972), KalfExpand
On lower bounds for polarisability
Abstract The response of molecular systems to external fields was one of the first areas studied after development of the new quantum mechanics. Early work by Kirkwood and Buckingham developedExpand
Axiomatic construction of quantum Langevin equations
A phenomenological construction of quantum Langevin equations, based on the physical criteria of (i) the canonical equal-time commutators, (ii) the Kubo formula, (iii) the virial theorem and (iv) theExpand
Relativistic virial theorem for diatomic molecules. Application to H2+
SummaryThe virial theorem for a molecule in the relativistic clamped-nuclei approximation is derived. The individual energy contributionsA (momentum energy),B (mass energy),T=A+B (kinetic energy)Expand
Confined systems and the modified virial theorem from semiclassical considerations
We show that two simple semiclassical strategies, one based on the Wilson–Sommerfeld rule and the other on the uncertainty principle, yield the exact modified form of the virial theorem for confinedExpand
