Both photic and nonphotic stimuli entrain circadian rhythms. Although the adaptive significance of nonphotic clock resetting is unknown, one possibility is that nonphotic cues modulate circadian responses to light. Results of studies on the interaction between photic and nonphotic stimuli support this idea.
